The meet & greet is held within two weeks of obtaining the eligibility list. It is meant to answer any questions initiates may have about the chapter and the organization as a whole. In addition, it allows current members to get to know the initiates. In addition, it allows current members to get to know the initiates. Attire is business casual, refreshments are provided. The meet & greet generally lasts between 45 minutes and an hour. At the end of the meet & greet is a brief question & answer session for initiates with just the officers of the chapter for any last questions you may have about the organization.
3. Election
Within a week after the meet & greet, our chapter meets to discuss and vote on each candidate. This election is designed to make sure there aren't any major reservations in inducting any candidate. Shortly after the election, you will be contacted regarding the result of the election.
4. Initiation Tasks
During the weeks after the election, initiation tasks are required for each initiate. Don't worry: there's no hazing. These are community service tasks designed to ensure your commitment to one of our chief ideals: dedication to our community.
5. Initiation Fee
There is a one-time induction fee of $100. $55 of this money goes to nationals, and the rest goes to our chapter and helps us pay for events, speakers, food, and fundraising efforts. Some of it also goes toward paying for your supper at the banquet following the initiation ceremony. The fee is due at the initiation ceremony. If you cannot afford this fee, just let us know. We can work with nationals to get your fee reduced or even waived as a requirement. Just be sure to give us notice at least a week prior to the ceremony.
6. Initiation Ceremony
The initiation ceremony is mandatory in order to join our chapter. If you are late, you will not be allowed in the ceremony. The attire for the ceremony is business formal. A banquet will immediately succeed the ceremony and will be comprised of supper at El Sombrero. We will pay for your supper using a portion of your initiation fee. If you cannot make the ceremony, let us know well in advance; we will see if you can attend either UNM's or NMSU's ceremony later in the semester. Otherwise, if there are no other options, we can postpone your initiation to the next semester.
