At the beginning of COVID in Spring of 2020, I was contacted by the Akron Art Museum for a volunteer project creating 2D art gallery spaces on the LikeLike Online platform, meant to showcase artwork and game projects.
The LikeLike Online Gallery had two immutable requirements:
1. Doors to enter and exit the gallery from on either side
2. Three displays that were the same size and placement
For this, I worked within 3D at first, creating spaces within Autodesk Maya to achieve the proper perspective used on the LikeLike Online platform. I then took these spaces into Adobe Photoshop for paint-overs, adding color, plants, sparkly things, and lighting, while maintaining the necessary metrics needed for the LikeLike platform.
Although the platform is no longer available, my biography page on the AAM website can be found here.
The white squares were populated with artworks and hyperlinks to game projects, and "visitors" could walk through these galleries and interact with the art pieces and each other through limited chat.
In 2018, I was blessed to be hired as an auxiliary service officer with the Kent State University Police Department. While ASOs typically handle clerical work such as taking police reports, filing paperwork for CALEA accreditation, and assisting officers with day-to-day department operations, in addition to that, I served as an in-house graphic designer under the leadership of the Community Outreach Officer, Tricia Knoles.
In this role, I was tasked with creating posters, flyers, trifold pamphlets, questionnaires, and social media posts for the department. Highlights of that work include standardizing and modernizing 8 different informational trifolds that were printed and stocked across campus, and creating a public information campaign regarding emergency management and personal responsibility in an emergency.
Below are a few selected works from my two years in this role.Â
One of the biggest undertakings in this role was standardizing our graphic presence to be in parity with university graphic design. For this, I worked with our university marketing team to identify fonts, colors, and gradients, as well as stock images and other graphical elements available for use. I also got to work with 3d-party print companies on banners, A-frame sandwich boards, coffee mug sleeves, and t-shirts, and ensured that my graphic work was print-ready and that the received prints met quality standards.
