Nick L. McDowell is an adjunct professor of Integrated Strategic Communication (ISC) at the University of Kentucky (UK). Formerly, Nick was a UK University Scholar, master's student, teaching assistant, and research assistant. Currently, he teaches ISC 261 (Strategic Writing and Planning in ISC Campaigns) and ISC 311 (Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues in ISC). Nick joined UK after over a decade working and managing a multi-state AAA emergency communications center. During his time at AAA, Nick communicated with over 150,000 consumers across the U.S. in emergency situations. He also has many years of experience in political campaigns. Recently, Nick managed a prominent incumbent's reelection bid.
Nick was the first UK student to receive the Certificate in Principles of Public Relations from the prestigious Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). He also has completed 13 FEMA media training courses. His current research and practical interests include social media, message design, media effects, communications & marketing law, dark media arts, and rhetoric in the marketing and public relations perspectives.
Away from academia, Nick enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, writing, working out, trying to complete all of AFI's Top Films lists, and spending time with his partner and their three dogs and two horses.
