The Northern Lights Council Amazing Race is a rebranding of the traditional Klondike Derby.

The event emphasizes teamwork and promoting basic outdoor skills.

The Amazing Race is a one-day winter challenge camp requiring teamwork and tests the “Scouting Skills” of scouts and ventures . All teams build a sled and travel from country to country with their sled.  At each country the team will be informed of their task or activity to be completed and are given a clue to their next stop. Points are awarded to the team based on how well they perform the task, the speed and the teamwork.  Challenges are set up for Scouts and Ventures; with the ventures required to do 2 additional activities. Some stops involve only a smaller number of the team to complete while the majority of countries involve all members to participate.

The youth build and transport a dog sled type structure and travel from Country to Country. The sled is built prior to the event and it is brought to the event to be used for the event. The sleds serve two purposes: to transport the equipment and supplies the Scouts and Vents need during the day, and to keep the patrols together as they walk around the course.

The camp is open to all Scouts and Ventures and provides multiple options for groups to participate.
