New Jersey born and raised! Audrey is a creative at heart, a former yogi, rock climber, amateur aerialist and contemporary dancer. Audrey's partner dance journey began in 2015 with Latin dances salsa, bachata and argentine tango. First introduced to Semba, Kizomba and Urban Kiz in 2016, she immediately fell in love with the warmth of the music, culture and connection of the dance. Audrey was determined to improve on her own technique and skill and studied under the guidance of accomplished instructors Upa and Phil. She has also performed as a member of the Kiz Outside the Box performance team founded by Upa Danca with their debut performance for Montréal Is Kizomba Festival in Canada in 2019.
Quite the hodophile, Audrey has traveled within the US and internationally. This led to her discovery and appreciation for the talent, diversity, and hospitality of other dance communities and well known instructors.
In early 2020 in collaboration with Drew, she shared the desire to share Kizomba with others and rekindle the scene after the pandemic. Thus, Kizomba Tuesday's (now known as TuesdayKIZZ) became a weekly staple in Bloomfield, NJ.
Through a tremendous amount of support and passion from their students, those weekly lessons and socials have fostered a welcoming atmosphere for all new comers and genuine camaraderie for our growing Kizomba family.
Audrey values creating a safe space for new and experienced dancers. Her sense of humor and warm encouragement will ease jitters and get a smile on your face. Mutual respect and dance etiquette is a central component reinforced for all levels. Providing individualized feedback on technique and time for open discussion is a mainstay... and with a gentle reminder..."Don't forget to breathe!".
