10:00am - 10:45am
Are you unsure of how to meet the new CS learning standards in your school or classroom? Are you wondering where to start? Join us for a NJDOE overview of the 2020 New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) and practices for Computer Science in K-5; then hear how current computer science teachers are implementing the standards in their classrooms. The purpose of this session is to provide teachers and administrators with specific ideas for meeting the new performance expectations, and to highlight instructional resources currently used by New Jersey educators.
This session will provide a platform for discussing how to provide students with the academic and social support they need to succeed in our courses and beyond. We will share experiences with academic tutors, tools to facilitate discussion, fair grading, and assignment feedback, and social tutors and clubs to enhance the sense of community and prepare for a career outside college.
This session will summarize the work being done for the creation of a half-year course in cybersecurity for grades 9 - 12. Six pilot programs will begin in September 2021.
This session will summarize how the three NJ higher ed institution grant recipients will implement CS PD in their respective regions of NJ. The three hubs are intended to provide high-quality professional learning opportunities to K-12 educators at all stages of their careers and promote the expansion of CS education at partner school districts and to ensure all K-12 students have equitable access to high-quality educators and therefore high-quality CS education.
