Summer Project
Who are you as an artist?
Who are you as an artist?
I am so excited to help you on your artistic journey! The DP Visual Art course requires you to grow and develop, showing perseverance, creativity, understanding, and independence as you prepare for your exhibition. This summer project is aimed at supporting your development into exhibiting artists and support all aspects of your coursework to a high standard, including exploring ideas, practising media, and analysing the work of others.
Task #1: Contextual Research - Visit at least 2 Exhibitions
The course requires you to experience different exhibitions so you can analyse the work of others and get ideas for your own work. I want you to look at the artists who inspire you in person, as well as seeing new work. From the exhibition you will be able to understand not only what the artists did, but also how the pieces have been curated in an exhibition. Consider the creative strategies the artists employed in creating their work. There are some examples questions below.
Task #2: Make Art in response to the prompt "As I am here"
Take the prompt however you want! You could work from your own photos of the places that you live, or visit. You could make work on your own, or attend a class, or take a course on domestika! You will need to create something and continue to develop your skills to prepare you for DP Art.
Task #3: Create a presentation that introduces you as an artist.
Prepare a presentation of 3-5 minutes that introduces you, your summer work as well as:
Discuss 2-3 examples of your past work that you really love, using analytical art terminology to explain your technical and conceptual choices.
Introduce two influential artists who inform your practice either conceptually or technically - these do not need to be the same as the artists that you saw in real life.
