Carbonaceous Aerosols
Bioaerosols
Welcome to the Complex Aerosol Systems Laboratory Website!
The general public understands aerosols as the mist that comes out of spray cans; however, aerosols—particles suspended in the air—are ubiquitous and can significantly impact our lives. For example, studies have estimated that outdoor aerosol pollution leads to more than 6 million premature deaths every year.
Our work focuses on two broad categories of aerosols: wildfire and biological particles. We use fundamental techniques from aerosol science and engineering to address some of the pressing challenges associated with the measurement of these particulates. Our current areas of research include:
Measurements of the radiative and health impact of wildfire emissions.
Development of techniques to assess transmission of infectious respiratory emissions.
Assessing the effectiveness of strategies to mitigate the impact of these particles indoors.
