Advancing Innovative Technologies to Detect, Measure, and Mitigate Air Pollution for Cleaner Air and Healthier Communities.
Welcome to the Complex Aerosol Systems Laboratory Website!
The general public understands aerosols as the mist that comes out of spray cans; however, aerosols—particles suspended in the air—are ubiquitous and can significantly impact our lives. For example, studies have estimated that outdoor aerosol pollution leads to more than 6 million premature deaths every year.
Our work focuses on two broad categories of aerosols: wildfire and biological particles. We use fundamental techniques from aerosol science and engineering to address some of the pressing challenges associated with the measurement of these particulates. Our current areas of research include:
Quantifying the Radiative and Health Impacts of Wildfire Emissions.
Developing Cutting-edge Technologies to Assess Airborne Disease Transmission
Optimizing Strategies to Reduce Exposure to Harmful Airborne Particles Indoors.
