ABOUT KELLY SMITH

Throughout her 16 year career in Northside ISD, Kelly Smith was known for both embracing and advancing the ways technology could be used in the classroom.

Mrs. Smith was born in Marion, Indiana in March 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, Victor Smith, and both graduated from Ball State University before they moved to Texas. Mrs. Smith later earned her master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

She taught math and computer science for 15 years, and was greatly influenced by her time in the classroom working with students. She never forgot what it meant to be a teacher.

Mrs. Smith came to Northside in 1995, first as a math teacher at Taft High School before moving to the Technology Services department as an Instructional Technology Coordinator. She was named Executive Director of Technology Instruction and Integration Services in 2003, and became the department's leader in 2004 as Assistant Superintendent for Technology Services.

During her tenure, Northside earned several honors for its effective use of technology. Most notably, in 2005, the district was honored as a Technology Leadership Salute District by the National School Boards Association. In 2008, Northside became the largest wireless district in Texas, and one of the largest in the nation.
