The cost of this event is £50 full price or £20 concession. Concessions are available for students, people whose primary income is state benefits, people with no or very little income, and Quakers aged 18-35.
The ticket cost pays for food and sleeping at Pardshaw Quaker Centre, which has crashmats - you will need to bring your own sleeping bag and pillow.
It costs an additional +£40 for a spot in the nearby Travelodge in Cockermouth (1 hour walk or 5 minutes in the car, lifts available). This will be in 3-bed rooms shared by 3 people. Note (1st Feb): Last-minute spaces in the Travelodge will be +£60 for the weekend due to Travelodge late booking fees.
The payment deadline is 1st March 2025. Payment is via a PayPal pool - you will be sent the link upon booking.
The food provided will be vegetarian. The menu is approximately:
Pasta bolognese with garlic bread
Chickpea curry (medium/very mild) with rice and naan
Toad in the hole with potatoes and veg
Breakfast (cereal, toast, baked beans, hash browns and sausage rolls) is also provided both days, as are tea, coffee and biscuits. We will aim to cater for dietary requirements.
Pardshaw Quaker Centre contains shallow steps between the two halves of the site (pictured). Traversing these steps is required to access the main IC area and is necessary to play the LARP.
One of the toilets on-site is accessible with grab rails (pictured).
As much of this LARP will take place in the dark, you will often be navigating in low-light conditions. We will provide glowsticks, but you may wish to bring a torch or lantern.
This LARP will involve interactions with real fire. This will happen when you burn your Virtue, Vice, Moment, or Brink by putting it in the woodburner. If you do not wish to get close to the fire, a ref or other player can do this task for you.
The route to the Fell Church is an hour's walk there and back. Concerns involving this route are only suitable for people able to walk long distances.
Pardshaw Crag is up a nearby hill. Concerns in this area are only suitable for people able to climb steeper steps.
The Burial ground, Stables, and Schoolroom are on-site areas with no specific accessibility considerations. Concerns set there should be suitable for anyone able to deal with the main site access challenges.
We will state on the Concern cards the area in which the Concern is scheduled to take place. If you have told us about access challenges that might limit you from one of the Concern areas, the Concerns written for you will not be set there.
Character creation is done via the booking form. It is intended to be a relatively simple process and the format should be recognisable by people who have previously played Ten Candles.
We will be inviting players to a Discord server shortly before the game, primarily to ensure travel coordination. While some players may use this for character development purposes, this is not a required activity.
It is our aim to ensure that any information required to play this game will be available written down and on-site.
This game will involve a small amount of reading (e.g. of Concern cards). These will be typed in legible font. Anyone who states they require it will have Concern cards written for them made in large print.
There are three sleeping areas on site: an IC (on Friday) sleeping area for players, an OC sleeping area for players, and a small sleeping area for crew and players with additional needs for a small ensuite room. The site also allows you to bring and pitch your own tent if you would like more privacy, though it is late March so may be rather cold!
