Extracting glacier coverage area from MODIS products and glacier data inventories over Andes, Alpes and Himalaya

2280 Raw HDF Images were processed to extract snow and cloud coverage area from 2000 to 2010. The percentage of the glacier covered area of five river basins over Himalayas, Alpes and Andes were extracted from the Global Land Ice Measurements from Space (GLIMS) dataset and the World Glacier Inventory (WGI). Where GLIMS outline was not available, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) maximum snow extent product (MOD10A2) with 8‐day composites at 500‐m resolution. It is assumed that GLIMS glacier outlines represent the glacial extent at the end of the reference period as a starting point for the future simulations of glacial extent. Glacier coverage were extracted from MODIS where GLIMS outline was not available. The minimum snow cover area for the periods with reasonable cloud cover at the end of the melting season was considered to be the glacier/permanent snow cover area. The purpose of extracting snow cover from ground based and satellite imageries was to use this data as an input to hydrologic model for glacier melt and resulted flow simulations.

Web application for US water quality data cleaning and exploration for using in hydrologic studies (RShiny)

Water Quality exploratory tool developed using R Shiny for developing interactive web applications. The tool retrieves the data from Water Quality Portal, load it and displays the sampling sites on a map. The codes and other relevant files are available on my GitHub.

To access the Web Application please click on "Application" button:

Querying large data may take several minutes, so it is suggested to not select more than 100-200 sampling sites. You can check the data retrieval summary before downloading the data.

The tool removes duplicated records, finds number of the records with missing measurements, finds and calculates non-detection concentrations,

Displays concentrations percentile on the map. A user can define desired percentile and display the concentrations on the map. A default value is median.

By selecting the sites on the map, grouped data by the selected features (year, sampling site, type of water etc.) is generated.
