Navigating the Double-Edged Sword of Generative AI in EMI Writing: A Framework for Responsible Integration

The 17th annual NEAR Language Education Conference x Teacher Journeys Conference was held on Saturday, June 28th, 2025, at Niigata University of International and Information Studies. This year’s theme, "Teacher Journeys, Student Journeys: Leading and Learning," explored the unique paths of growth and discovery that both educators and learners undertake, shaping their educational identities from the initial steps in learning to lifelong development.

I presented a session titled "Navigating the Double-Edged Sword of Generative AI in EMI Writing: A Framework for Responsible Integration," which introduced a practical framework for educators to effectively integrate generative AI into English for Academic Purposes (EAP) writing instruction. The session focused on the ethical and pedagogical considerations for teachers, offering strategies to enhance learner agency and critical thinking while maintaining a writer-centered approach.
