In ISLT 9467, I used a template and rubric to assess the five characteristics of meaningful learning present in a learning activity of my choice. I provided evidence for my rating (high, medium, or low) by stating specific examples of what students are doing in the activity to justify the rating. When I found areas that could be improved, I described how I would do so. This activity was important for me to ensure that I develop meaningful learning experiences when using technology. Also in 9467, I developed a concept map with my classmates illustrating how Google Apps could be used in a variety of ways to create meaningful learning experiences when teaching mathematics. Finally, in ISLT 7377, I developed a Technology Integration Learning Plan (TILP) to have EFL students create “How-to” videos in which they would explain a process using specific target language. The plan is personalized to each student, fosters independent learning, and accommodates learner differences and needs. For example, each student will choose the process to be described based on experience and interest, as well as the equipment they will use to record their video based on familiarity or availability.
The Technology Integration Learning Plan (TILP) I developed in in ISLT 7377 follows Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) methods and is aligned with curriculum goals for YU freshman students, specifically with respect to using target language to describe a process. In addition, in ISLT 9485, I designed and developed a learning activity in which the objective was for students to develop a persuasive presentation in English, which is a new learning objective for YU freshman students. I developed learning activities and a description of how the activities aligned with the objective. I also created a rubric to assess whether the objective had been met.
In ISLT 9471, my classmates and I used the ADDIE model and Backward Design principles to create a course design for a blended-learning employment search course for university upperclassmen. In addition, in ISLT 9485, I used design principles to design an online game to teach English paragraph structure to EFL students. The game has an engaging baseball theme, but it also has a clear objective and activities aligned with the objective.
