STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Rhetorical Situation and Genre:
A. analyze, compose, and reflect on arguments in a variety of genres, considering the strategies, claims, evidence, and various mediums and technologies that are appropriate to the rhetorical situation
This semester I learned that rhetorical situation includes 5 elements which includes: topic, angle, audience, purpose and context. With learning these topics it helped me with the structures and planning in my projects 1 and 2. It brought the introduction of my essays together by adding the topic and getting the audience attention. Also with the difference in genre and rhetorical situation you can see how each project varied in structure.
Writing as a Social Act
B. Describing the social nature of composing, particularly the role of discourse communities at the local, national, and international level.
Throughout the semester we were using discourse communities via Canvas. During this we were able to get feedback and interactions from my fellow classmates. For each of my assignments my audience was Ms Wilson and the discourse community.
Below is an example of the discussion posts.
Writing as a Process
C. Use multiple approaches for planning, researching, prewriting, composing, assessing, revising, editing, proofreading, collaborating, and incorporating feedback in order to make your compositions stronger in various mediums and using multiple technologies.
During this semester I worked a lot on writing process. For the three working assignments we had over the course of this semester there was tons of proofreading and research needing to be done in order to complete my essays. There was also plenty of feedback from my peers and professor and helped with my structuring of my essays.
Example below:
Grammar and Usage
D. improve your fluency in the dialect of Standardized Written American English at the level of the sentence, paragraph and document.
E. analyze and describe the value of incorporating various languages, dialects, and registers in your own and others texts.
During this semester I was able to use these concepts very often with our weekly discussion posts which included paragraphs, complete sentences and documents when making our projects.
Reflection
F. evaluate your development as a writer over the course of the semester and describe how composing in multiple genres and mediums using various technologies can be applied in other contexts to advance your goals.
During this semester I mostly used reflection towards the end of my projects especially within my portfolio. Below each subpage that includes my projects there will be reflections from each project. For project 3 it'll include the preface which is similar to a reflection.
Research
G. use writing and research as a means of discovery to examine your personal beliefs in the context of multiple perspectives and to explore focused research questions through various mediums and technologies
H. integrate others’ positions and perspectives into your writing ethically, appropriately, and effectively in various mediums and technologies
I. compose a research-based academic argument in one of various mediums and technologies by identifying, analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing sources, which must include secondary sources
J. analyze and describe the writing and research conventions of an academic field in order to understand the different ways of creating and communicating knowledge
I used these a lot throughout the semester for every project and writing assignment I had, i used resources of research such as the internet, citing websites in my projects, using for the first time unm libraries articles which came in handy for project 3.
