Primary Responsibilities

One of my responsibilities was to provide quality assurance and support to the recruiting team. I also reviewed resumes and credentials for healthcare providers. Within the first couple weeks we also performed cold calls to potential employees. After masting some of these duties we were allowed to branch off and help with scheduling and compliance as well.

Learning Objectives

I set two main learning objectives when stating my internship. Those objectives included supporting my team and learning new skills. I also got the opportunity to take on new task throughout my internship as well. I mastered these objectives by helping out our recruiters where I could, as well as doing recruiting myself. I also learned a little bit about scheduling healthcare providers for shifts. Lastly, I also demonstrated learning new skills as I helped validate credentials for healthcare providers while helping out in compliance.

Personal Development

Prior to my internship, I honestly had no experience in human healthcare. This internship really opened my eyes to all of the hidden work that goes into patient's care, and not even their clinical care but the administration side to provide them care. This internship improved my confidence when involved in various customer service-related situations. It also allowed me to identify how various lessons from my education fit into the daily roles in healthcare administration settings.

Academic Connections

There are many courses that I experienced at IUPUI that I feel helped me tremendously with my knowledge in the healthcare field. There were a couple specific classes that really stood out to be when making connections between my education and my internship. A couple of those classes were Chronic and Long-term Care Administration, Health Administration Ethics, and Leadership in health Management Resolving Disputes. Chronic and Long-term Care Administration gave me a solid foundation of how Long-term care facilities function and helped with a majority of the terms thrown around regarding facilities at my internship. Health Administration Ethics and Leadership in Management Resolving Disputes, both came in handy in my internship experience because in the healthcare field it's very important to know what you can and can't say when you're handling such fragile information. It's also important to know how you can handle certain instances that pop up and still act in a professional manner when crisis arises.

A Day at Networks Connect

A day at networks connect was never boring! No cubicles, and very few offices, the building was an open flow concept, and you were set in teams typically divided by which states you were working in. I believe NC was staffing in over 13 states and had just moved into Texas near the end of my internship. Your day could really go in any direction as an intern! We started off the first 4 weeks recruiting Healthcare providers which involved gathering credentials and basic information from your potential healthcare providers. Most of us then moved onto shadowing schedulers and helping them fill shifts at facilities, this involved sending out e-mail blast or calling employees to see if they could help out. You could help Business account managers with various projects such as invoicing and payroll as well. There is also a compliance department where we spent time collecting health care providers credentials and notifying them when their licensees or other certifications were expiring. Overall, my experiences with Networks Connect was fabulous! You work with great people who really care about going the extra mile!
