Teaching

Central to my teaching philosophy is determining how I can foster a collaborative learning environment while providing students with experiential, transformative, and community-engaged learning opportunities. I am firmly entrenched in the belief that we learn by doing and I incorporate a student-centred holistic approach that aims at developing teaching and learning experiences that are innovative, meaningful, and life-long.

My teaching experience as a Course Instructor spans across a wide range of areas in philosophy including epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of sport, and introductory courses. I am prepared to teach introductory courses in philosophy, ethics (e.g., applied, contemporary moral issues, environmental ethics), logic, philosophy of education, philosophy of mind, and introductory/advanced epistemology.

Outside my teaching background in philosophy, I have a wealth of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level. In my role as a Learning Strategist, I am responsible for providing advanced academic and learning skills counselling to undergraduate and graduate students. Some examples include the development and delivery of undergraduate and graduate workshops that promote learning skills development, course-based programs, cohort-based programs, graduate writing groups, and individual advising sessions.  A recent teaching initiative I'm working on is implementing a Supplemental Instruction Model for courses in physiology and biomechanics that have 300+ students enrolled in them.

I continually invest in professional development opportunities in teaching and learning. I received an Academic Integrity Certificate from Assiniboine Community College, an Academic Advising Training Program Certificate from the University of Toronto, and a Supplemental Instruction Supervisor Certificate from the University of Guelph. Additionally, I'm a part of various teaching networks such as the North American Association of Philosophy and Education (NAAPE) and the Learning Specialists Association of Canada (LSAC).
