Nick Suchomel (he/they) is a playwright, director, filmmaker, musician, and sound designer exploring emotional aesthetic. Originally from Shoreham, Vermont, Nick moved to the Twin Cities to study at Macalester College, where he wrote and directed A Forgotten Mind. Since graduating, he has stayed in the area writing plays, teaching, and working in the theater scene, returning home briefly to co-direct the Town Hall Theater's Young Company Classical: Peter and the Starcatcher.
In his work, Nick strives to inspire change. His plays often grapple with themes of escapism, queerness, chaos, and mental health, but not in a way that only creates awareness around these topics. Instead, Nick's work provides an array of lenses through which the audience can examine themselves and the world around them, offering statagies and philosophies for the spectator to consider within their own life. Many of his other projects explore physicality, utilizing the visual presence of actors alongside technical elements to create striking images that elivate the text and prompt reflection. This is something Nick also brings into the classroom so students not only understand the core concepts and practices of theater, but the nuances in their presence on stage.
