A simplified game of Spanish Truco made with GameMaker in 9 days for university.
Balatro (2024) by LocalThunk is a card videogame "where you play illegal poker hands, discover game-changing jokers, and trigger adrenaline-pumping, outrageous combos. ". I aim to replicate the nature of the cards depicted within this game, the way they move around the board, their animation, sound, and feel. I specifically like the visual audio feedback when scoring card, the way the card's rotation quickly oscillates, the text pop-up showing its value, and the quick pleasant sound that plays to complement it. I will also be taking note of the games strict top-down view, showing a full view of the board with only the necessary elements of a given scenario being shown.
Touch Melbourne (2018) by Andrew Gleeson and Cecile Richard is a short game where the player "Explore[s] the city of Melbourne through its various, tiny everyday interactions.". The organic interactions of objects, reflecting their real-world counterparts, will be adopted into Truco. I will attempt to clearly convey the interaction through visual and auditory feedback in a manner that does not require a written tutorial on what to click, where to drag, or how many times to press an object. The visual style and animation of my game will also be inspired by Touch Melbourne's hand-drawn pastel color aesthetic.
I do not claim to own or have created the following creative works used in this project.
