In Auskick children from 5-12 years of age learn the fundamental motor skills for sports participation, the basics of fitness conditioning, including how to train and practice, and the importance of good health and nutrition.
Through specially arranged physical activities and games, some very important mental and psychological skills are nurtured. These include self-motivation, responsibility, behaviour management, persistence, resilience and a "best effort always" attitude.
Team activities help children learn important social skills, including cooperation and respect for others.
Our Under 9s team is made up of girls and boys - some of whom are new to AFL or our club, and others who have progressed from an Auskick side. Even if your child has never played AFL before, the Under 9s team is a great place to start as your child will learn all of the skills they need as well as the rules of the game.
The Under 9s league is non-competitive, which means that whilst we aim to instill pride in the club and a desire to succeed, game scores are not recorded - the emphasis for our players is on having fun whilst practicing their skills. Find out more / Register now
The Under 11 (mixed), Under 13 (mixed), Under 15 (boys) and Under 17 (boys) age groups are classed as competitive - all game rules and by-laws apply and scores and ladders are recorded, with successful teams progressing to the finals. Our U11s and U13s compete against Central Coast teams whilst our U15s and U17s also travel to compete against teams in the Hunter region.
In these grades our coaches focus on the consolidation of basic game specific skills and the development of technical and tactical concepts. Attention is given to individual player development as well as creating a playing group that is cohesive and competitive.
Are you a girl aged 10-15 looking to give Aussie Rules a go? We would love to hear from you! With a growing list of girls playing at the Dockers, we are working towards a youth girls team/s in the coming years. Girls aged 9-13 are eligible (and encouraged) to participate in our mixed age junior divisions.
