NHNCG Street View Filming Project
Dec 2024 info@nhncg.org
The New Haven and Northampton Canal Greenway (NHNCG), traversing 80+ miles, is a great resource – a long-distance, mostly off-road paved route connecting major urban centers with rural scenery, historical sites, and small towns along the route.
A major portion of the NHNCG was recently filmed for posting on Google Street View. For those who aren't familiar with Google Street View, it is a feature of Google Maps that provides 360-degree panoramic views of streets and other locations around the world. At this point almost all of the 80+ mile NHNCG route has been filmed for Street View.

Most of the off-road sections (totaling 66 miles) were filmed in Nov 2024 and March 2024, with short sections from other dates. Some sections have been filmed by riders not affiliated with the NHNCG. Occasionally the video shown might not be the best available or the date of the video is not correct — there are quirks in Street View. The on-road sections were not filmed by bike as these are already visible in the usual Street View.
You might notice that videos of some short sections have not been posted, usually due to a technical issue in filming, and some are of low quality. Further filming is planned for next spring. If you notice missing or poor-quality Street View segments, please send feedback to info@nhncg.org for future filming.
Many thanks to all who helped make this possible - Glenn Pransky who arranged the overall project and towed the trailer with the camera and supporting equipment the length of the trail, Herb Nolan and the Solomon Foundation for the idea of recording trails as a path to greater public access and for providing the use of a high quality camera, Christy Bannish and Norm Berg and their families who helped guide and transport the filming crew, Terry Snyder who figured out most of the on-route logistics, Jeff Rosenblum and Ben Katz of Toole Design for their excellent tech support, and to Craig Della Penna who encouraged us to get it all done.
Major gear used: Insta360 Pro 2, Burley Flatbed trailer.
