About the New Haven & Northampton Canal Greenway Alliance

The New Haven & Northampton Canal Greenway Alliance (NHNCGA) represents seven nonprofit groups that make up the 81 mile multi-use greenway in Massachusetts and Connecticut, with a focus on strengthening the tourism and recreational opportunities along the trail corridor.

Mission Statement: 

Promote the 81 mile New Haven & Northampton Canal Greenway (NHNCG) as a vibrant active transportation corridor and a regional resource for strengthening tourism, recreational opportunities, and community health for all ages and abilities.


Group Structure:  

The New Haven & Northampton Canal Greenway is managed by 16 town and city governments in partnership with seven nonprofit, volunteer based member organizations:  Farmington Canal Rail-to-Trail Association, Farmington Valley Trails Council, Friends of the Southwick Rail Trail, Friends of the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail,  Friends of the Southampton Greenway, Friends of the Manhan Rail Trail, and Friends of Northampton Trails.  


Regional Trail Names:

The New Haven & Northampton Canal Greenway, from New Haven to Northampton, contains all or a segment of these trails : Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, Southwick Rail Trail, Columbia Greenway Rail Trail, Southampton Greenway, Manhan Rail Trail, New Haven Northampton Canal Line, East Coast Greenway.
