The IEEE NHCE Student Branch in collaboration with Pandeteens Youth Community and Child Rights Foundation visited a government school based at Doddabanahalli, Chikkabanahalli Colony, Karnataka on the 21st of April 2022. The strength of the school was around 75, with children studying in classes 4th to 8th.
After a brief introduction, the office bearers and volunteers took the initiative to give these children a day that was packed with numerous fun activities which not only aimed to sharpen educational skills but also practical and logical skills.
The whole session was highly interactive with children divided in groups that were taken care of by 5 volunteers each. Each group contained 15 students with volunteers who knew Kannada, Hindi and English. In the first activity, the students were asked if they were to go to a forest and survive there, what is the one thing they would take along, to which the volunteers were able to receive extremely creative responses.
The activity went on to allow the students to make groups based on the items they chose in order to survive, so as to sharpen their team building skills. After a short refreshment break, the children were engaged in a fun game of treasure hunt.
This was followed by an educational experiment of a volcano that was not only demonstrated by the IEEE volunteers, but the children of the school were also given the resources to do the same. The volunteers also made sure to have various conversations with the young minds about the future and every child received a few stationeries and a school bag as the visit came to its end.
The agenda of the visit was to provide underprivileged children with outward knowledge about team building and sharpen logical thinking and social skills through practical experiments and games. Not just that but to also ingrain in their young minds, questions about the future with respect to their career and education. The entire experience of the visit was extremely fulfilling not only for the children but also each and every office bearer and volunteer that made sure the visit was a success.
