The IEEE NHCE Student Branch conducted a Creativity in Engineering Workshop on the 11th of October 2022.
The event started with a quick icebreaker with the students where they were required to perform a small 2-minute activity with the person next to them. All students were seated in the MBA Classroom and a given a white sheet of paper for an easy conduction of the workshop.
After the quick activity, the speakers gave a brief introduction on the 7 essential skills of an engineer. The workshop emphasized on the requirements in aptitude in math, interest in science, perseverance, problem solving, ability to communicate and creativity.
Students quickly grasped the importance of each of the skills and how today through the workshop, they could understand their strengths and weaknesses and hence take the required steps in college to focus on their individual growth. Through the various activities, students learned a lot about their partners.
They were assessed on their ability to empathize with the needs on their partner, understand their requirements, and with their short discussion identify the problem statement.
As engineers, having creativity means the ability to take on a task even when you’re not sure about the solution. Creativity cannot be compared to a person’s artistic abilities.
The workshop was concluded with creating awareness about how IEEE NHCE SB can play an important role in a student’s path to career. Having multiple opportunities and having the right resources at the right time is very important from the start. The first-year students look forward to more such interactive sessions. IEEE NHCE SB looks forward to interacting with more such students through engaging workshops and events.
Finally, the students shared their ideas, designs and feedback with the audience. Last ten minutes were open for interaction with speakers and more questions about IEEE organization and IEEE’s CSR initiatives.
