SketchUp lets you set the time of day and the time of year and will show you exactly where the shadows or shade will be.
click on these menu items -
Window > Model Info > Geolocation
enter the latitude and longitude for the location of your building.
Napier is 39.5° S, 176.9° E
Google maps doesn't say "South", it says "-" (minus) instead - make sure you get the south or north correct, or your shadows will be in the wrong direction.
