Neykar’s Midterm Reflection and Evaluation
Confidence and Independence
I am gaining confidence to talk about sensitive topics that can arise in my classroom. I started to dive deeper into topics that are exposed by my classmates and articles assigned. Racism Awareness is a must and I try to understand it not just from my point of view but by the ones who practice it. I am confident now that I can research more and inform others, clarify, or just have a civil conversation about statements made by politicians are not necessarily factual. My confidence level is higher now because I am learning that education is the key. Not necessarily getting a college degree per say but as educating the mind and heart about important topics like racism. To have an open mind and see beyond a made-up story that is without truth. When it comes to independence, I am still growing as I continue my research journey, education, and desire to provide my classmates, teachers, students, and myself with a better understanding of diversity and culture.
Knowledge content
Regarding my knowledge content, this course is teaching me to get better skill sets with communication, using all the tools available, and the case scenarios that could happen in my classroom with culturally diverse students. It is my academic and personal goal to continue acquiring the content knowledge necessary to address any situation that might arise in and outside my classroom. Thus far in my learning regarding knowledge content, I can use many of the articles and videos reflection to address scenarios with students, staff, and co-workers.
Use of Prior and Emerging Experience
I have shared information with our school counselor that I have found very interesting and educational. I am taking my background knowledge, new knowledge, and strategies into real life situations presented in the classroom in the past months. I hope to use more strategies from our readings and material to address racism. I am learning that the most important tool is to be unbiased and to have a good knowledge foundation to be able to educate all parties involved so we can be in a healthy, fun, and learning environment.
Critical Awareness
By the end of the semester I hope to be able to properly acquire all the information and absorb the experiences needed to best help culturally diverse students, co-workers, and others who may act poorly. I wish not to have blind spots in my ability to reason properly when it comes to topics like racism and stereotyping.
Estimated Evaluation in Terms of grades
I am aiming for an A+ because the content present in the class is in my best interest. I am eager to continue educating myself about topics that can be avoided and forbidden to talk about yet can be extremely educative to avoid harsh situations.
Suggestions
I would like to meet twice a month as I have been under a lot of stress because the last meeting I had which was mandatory to be at our school Academic Parent-Teacher Team (APTT) I learned that the district will be reducing the amount of Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC). This month on November 1st I will again be serving as a translator for various grade levels and I am worried that I will miss a good meeting which can affect my grade. I cannot miss work and miss serving the culturally and linguistically diverse students I work with at school. Two meeting times would allow me to catch up with topics I may have missed. [From Instructor: Please know we can always meet on nonscheduled meeting days. I am available to meet one-on-one when needed. Please let me know when you want to meet for I am available for such a conscientious and diligent student as yourself! Proud of your work this semester, Neykar!]
