RDS (Residency Determination Service) is a platform used in North Carolina that determines whether a student is considered in-state or out-of-state for tuition purposes.
The website to complete your RDS can be found here. You will use your CFNC account to log in.
You should try your best to complete this as soon as possible! It must be completed before college applications can be submitted.
IMPORTANT NOTE! Once you complete and confirm a section, you CANNOT go back - so be sure to double (and maybe even triple) check that the information you entered is correct!
However, you may exit your residency request (RDS) and resume later. The information you enter will be saved after each section you complete. You have 25 days to complete your request.
It is required to complete the RDS to apply to any college in North Carolina. Once it is completed, you will receive a Residency Certification Number (RCN), which will be submitted as part of your application(s).
Also, getting qualified for in-state tuition will save you thousands of dollars!
