LOST OR K.I.A ?
Research Path Forward
I'm continuing my research for a documentary-style novel about Generation X in Serbia. My focus will be on understanding their experiences from the 1990s through to the present day, exploring the socio-political and economic conditions, cultural expressions, and personal narratives that shaped their lives. A key aspect of this research is to investigate whether they can be characterized as a 'lost' or 'killed' generation.
Initial Focus: The 1990s
I'm starting by establishing the defining birth years for Generation X in Serbia and then immediately diving into the tumultuous 1990s. This period is crucial for understanding their formative experiences, including the impact of the Yugoslav Wars, sanctions, and hyperinflation. I'll also be looking for personal stories and cultural expressions from this era.
Upcoming Research Stages
My plan involves a chronological exploration, moving from the 1990s into the 2000s and then the 2010s to the present. Throughout this process, I'll be gathering information on political changes, economic reforms, and the evolving cultural landscape. I'll also specifically investigate the 'lost' or 'K.I.A.' theme, analyze emigration patterns, and collect artistic and cultural works that reflect the generation's experiences. Finally, I'll examine the diversity within Serbian Gen X before synthesizing all the gathered information.
