CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ATHLETES, PARENTS & COACHES
Welcome Newton Braves Youth Wrestlers (NBYW), Parents and Coaches,
The NBYW welcomes you to the start of the wrestling season. We are looking forward to another exceptional year of youth wrestling.
The purpose of the NBYW is to promote the sport of wrestling to area youth through instructional training of proper wrestling techniques. The NBYW has a qualified coaching staff to assist in the instructional training of the participants. Our coaching staff conducts all training in an environment designed to promote a fun, yet informative, training experience. Hard work, dedication and sportsmanship are promoted, and through positive reinforcement our staff provides the best possible training for our young athletes.
As we begin this wrestling season, please remember that the NBYW has high character expectations for all persons associated with the school. Every coach, wrestler and parent is not only a representative of this school, but of our community. Our actions are as important as our words, so please lead by example to show our children the true definition of “good sportsmanship”. Should you have any questions concerning the NBYW please see one of the staff members
WRESTLERS CODE OF CONDUCT:
1. No wrestler is to physically or verbally abuse any official, coach or fellow wrestler.
2. Wrestlers must listen to and follow the directions of all coaches. Wrestlers will be expected to work hard at practice or will be asked to sit.
3. If a wrestler is disruptive during practice, they will be verbally warned by a head coach. If the behavior continues, they will be asked to sit for 5 minutes. If the behavior still continues, a parent will be called to pick up the child. This is a learning environment and disruptive behavior has no place and is unfair to the kids who are here to learn.
4. At all times, wrestlers must conduct themselves in a mature and respectful manner.
a. No unsportsmanlike yelling or cheering if a wrestler is hurt.
b. Win or lose, wrestlers MUST shake hands and congratulate their opponent.
c. No vulgar or obscene gestures of any kind should ever be made by a wrestler. d. NEVER should a headgear be thrown.
5. No wrestler is to use abusive and/or profane language before anyone connected with a NBYW function (practices, tournaments, meetings, etc.).
6. Wrestlers should make every effort to attend all scheduled practices. If they cannot make a practice or meet, notification is mandatory to a head coach. If this situation becomes habitual, kids will lose competition opportunities.
7. Wrestlers are not permitted in the wrestling room until a coach is present.
8. All wrestlers are to treat all NBYW property and equipment with respect
9. The NBYW practice facility and any facility where competitions are held are to be respected. These facilities are provided for our use free of charge. There will be zero tolerance for disrespecting or damaging any facility associated with our wrestling team.
10. All wrestlers will support their teammates. If you are not warming up or on the mat competing, you will be on the bench watching and supporting your teammates. Also, there will be no food on the bench during the matches. There will be a 5 minute cool down after a wrestled match where the wrestler can get a quick snack and return to the bench.
PARENTS CODE OF CONDUCT:
1. No parent or fan is to physically or verbally abuse another parent, fan, coach, wrestler or referee. If a parent has a problem, concern or issue with a fan, wrestler or another parent, the only proper venue for discussion is with a NBYW staff member in private at an appropriate time.
2. All parents are to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner:
a. No unsportsmanlike yelling, such as: booing, teasing, or cheering if a wrestler is hurt or losing. No instructions to take specific advantage of any injury incurred by an opponent while wrestling.
b. No unsportsmanlike gestures of any kind will be allowed.
3. Except in an emergency, no parent is to interfere with practices, meets or coaching at any time. Parents may observe, but are to wait until before or after practices to interact with their child or talk with the coaches unless a coach requests a conversation. Coaches will be glad to talk to parents in private about any issue or problem before or after practices or meets, as their schedule allows.
4. No one is allowed in the bench area during meets except the wrestlers and coaches/staff. If this is not followed, we will rope off the area behind the bench. If you want to coach, sign up. If you don't want to coach, please do as every other parent and sit on the bleachers. People behind the bench are a distraction to our kids.
5. Please see that your child is on time, is fully prepared and is picked up at the designated time after practice. The coaches will try to finish practice as close to the designated time as possible.
6. Everyone must help out at some point during the season. We will be utilizing a sign up application this year. This will be mandatory of all parents not coaching. Help consists of setting up and tearing down for meets and helping out with concessions or the admission table. Do not make us force you to volunteer. It's always the same 10% doing 90% of the work. This is for your children. Show some initiative and sign up once the application is active. You will never miss your child wrestle.
Remember…sports are for the kids. Encourage hard work but also let them enjoy themselves. Leave all egos at the door please.
Parents and their athletes will be held responsible for compliance with the Code of Conduct. Violation of the code of conduct will result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from the team.
Please remember that your expectations of a coach should be matched by your commitment as a parent. We are not miracle workers. Kids who show up every day, pay attention, and work hard during practice are typically the ones who excel. Please encourage your kids to come prepared to listen and learn.
