Over the course of the year, PLP Pathways hosts a webinar series on the Zoom video conferencing platform. Webinars are uploaded to YouTube and viewers can also receive credit for watching the video and completing a short assessment of learning.
Season 5 of the PLP Pathways Webinar Series will feature familiar topics, new perspectives regarding equity, and a deep dive into the critical elements of Act 77: personal learning plans, proficiency based learning, and flexible pathways.
Below you will find a schedule of the webinars with a brief description of the month's topic. Below that schedule, you will find links to the webinars along with the opportunity to receive professional development credit for taking the time to engage with the material.
This webinar was recorded in the days before schools were closed due to COVID-19. We both attempted to revisit issues of equity but also to recognize the issues that students, teachers, and families were facing in the face of the pandemic. Indeed, some of our equity questions were as appropriate for living in a pandemic as they were before the disruption to schools: How can we reflect, effectively, on our classroom and school policies to ensure all students have the opportunities to succeed?
How can students demonstrate competence and responsibility through partnership, curriculum design, and authentic project based learning? We'll discuss different options to integrate student voice, look at negotiated curriculum and look at the UN Sustainable Development goals as a framework for developing student led projects.
Using flexible pathways and community partnerships, teachers and students can develop a pathways to proficiency that are relevant, rigorous, and a foundation for citizenship. We'll discuss how teachers can develop these opportunities and new technology platforms such as micro-credentialing that can motivate students.
This month, we'll discuss proficiency-based learning, assessment, and partnering with students in assessment, reflection, and the design of learning targets and tasks.
Our third webinar of the year examined the issue of family engagement and how this can integrated or linked to student-led conferences. Our conversation involved some thoughtful discussion about the nature and purpose of student-led conferences, different methods of engaging with families, and issues of equity related to connecting with all families, and students.
The second PLP Pathways webinar focused on building students' ethical sense of self, the goal setting process and how literacy can be integrated into personalized learning activities. We will discuss implementing goals, principles of Universal Design for Learning vis a vis goals and evidence, and implications of equity with regard to student goal setting.
Check out our first PLP Pathways webinar discussion here. We discussed the start of the school year, building relationships, and the different learning activities that activities that create dynamic, equitable learning opportunities for students.
