Submission Requirement
Submission Guideline
Topics: No specific limitation, unless we have special collections for specific events or themes. However, the topic should be about any humanities subject. Not limited to philosophy, but encouraged.
File Type: Microsoft Word or Google Docs
Writing Guidelines: Focus on one specific problem or concept and write it in depth. Depth is always more important than width.
I.e., for the concept of dehumanization, we can focus on its paradoxes, ontology, metaphysics, or your own literature review. However, don't summarize other authors' opinions. You can use them to illustrate yours, but your opinion is the most provoking and main part of the illustration. We want to see an analysis of why you have such opinions. It is important to explore why, who, and how.
Length: No less than 600 words; no more than 2,000 words. (not including charts and references)
For submission, please set the file name in the format of Author -- Title -- Category. So that we can help you match the editorial members who best fit your essay and style!
Citation Policy
In order to keep a nice and open academic environment for everyone, we require every piece of paper and work to cite its sources. We need to give credit to those who initially created that knowledge. And don't be afraid of citing resources; this is what you should do.
Moreover, we want to use the newest APA citation format for all the pieces we receive. If you have any problems, here is a detailed breakdown of how to cite resources in APA format. If you are not sure, you can ask for help or Google it up. At least, you need to keep the websites you use in your essay, even if they are not cited in the proper format.
In-text citations
One author: (Smith, 2020) or Smith (2020)
Two authors: (Smith & Jones, 2020) or Smith and Jones (2020)
Three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2020) or Smith et al. (2020)
With a direct quote: Include the page number, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14) or (Field, 2005, pp. 14-15)
Reference list
General format: Author's last name, Initial(s). (Year of publication). Title of work. Publisher.
For a journal article: Author's last name, Initial(s). (Year). Title of article. Journal Title, volume(issue), pages. DOI or URL.
For a book: Author's last name, Initial(s). (Year). Title of book (Edition if applicable). Publisher.
For a website: Author's last name, Initial(s). (Year, Month, Day). Title of specific page. Site Name. URL.
Key points
The reference list is a separate page at the end of your paper.
All sources cited in the text must be included in the reference list.
The reference list should be double-spaced and have a hanging indent for each entry (the first line is flush left, and subsequent lines are indented).
Capitalize the first word of the title and any subtitles, and proper nouns.
AI Policy
AI is a serious problem in any essay writing. We need to modify our policies so that protection for all writers is applied in this academic program. We will run your work through an AI check. It is easy to figure out the use of AI in your essays.
Policies
Use of AI in any writing or editing is not allowed. No exception will apply under this rule.
Use of AI in brainstorming is fine and actually encouraged. AI is a great tool for learning and quickly finding resources. Don't feel bad about checking facts or ideas with the help of AI. But you have to show your original thoughts. Because AI is based on algorithms and databases, it gives us the impression that it can't create something new, especially in the humanities. If your essay is truly unique and provoking, there will be no passages that you can copy directly from AI.
Any work that tends to show a philosopher's or writer's idea has to be accompanied by a proper citation! If this fails to satisfy, we will suspect the author of improper use of AI.
Why ban?
AI has a strong learning ability. You can see that the most compelling ability of AI is its ability to learn. They learn the algorithms that you automatically have in your head, and they can learn them better than you. Don't feed AI with any of your work directly. It will be of no good to you. But if you just ask for questions or a singular paragraph, it will be okay.
AI can make you lazy in studying. AI is convenient. You can easily access tons of information at a moment's notice. But the laziness that you form in this process will drive you to a lesser desire to read original books from the best authors. Try to keep good learning goals and habits so you can make sure you learn something in your head, not just rely on AI.
As a result, if the essay is identified as AI-written, it will not be able to proceed to the editorial and publication phases.
|Originality is your weapon! Don't underrate it!|
Editorial Process and Rules
Every essay will be assigned to one student editor.
The editor is in charge of SUGGESTING, rather than rewriting for the author. Editors are not allowed to rewrite anything for the author, but suggestions on content, arrangement, and adjustments are allowed and encouraged.
We aim to maintain the essay's originality. To this purpose, editors may suggest proper references without shifting the focus and originality of the essays.
Authors are allowed and encouraged to discuss their ideas and work with the editors to improve their essays.
The editorial manager will oversee the editorial process to regulate potential issues and risks. As mentioned, the essay will result in at least 3 people's engagement, i.e., editor, author, and manager.
