The Pacific Northwest Subdivision serves as NMRL's gateway to international commerce.
Beginning at Spokane, Washington, the subdivision connects directly with Canadian rail traffic moving through Southern Railway of British Columbia and Canadian Pacific Kansas City. Intermodal traffic arriving from Vancouver and western Canadian ports enters the NMRL system here before moving south toward the Rockies and Southwest.
Operations emphasize velocity and reliability. Long intermodal trains, grain traffic, forest products, and bridge manifests dominate the subdivision.
