Fake News on Media

In this activity, we randomly divided our project students into teams and asked them to research examples of fake news we encounter in the media and to write examples themselves, so they had the opportunity to realize the fake news they encountered in the media. Based on what they learned, we asked each group to write fake news about the subject we gave to them. They did this creative writing work with the station technique.

Fake friendships on the Internet

Arda is a computer addict. He cannot be friends with anyone, but he has friends in a virtual environment. Again, one day, while surfing the internet, a message is sent to his computer:

"- Hi there ! Let's be a friends! ""

Arda accepted this request and started to chat as below.

Umut: Hi what is your name? How are you?

Arda:I am Arda I am ok. You? And your name?

Umut: I am Emir I am fine.What do you like doing?

Arda: I like doing sports. What about you?

Umut: I like playing the drums. Can you tell me about your family?

Arda: I have got a mum, a dad and a sister and a brother. Have you got any sisters or brothers?

Umut: Mhh I’ve got a sister. She’s cuter and older than me. Where do you live?

Arda:I live in İzmir. You?

Umut:I live in Izmir too.

Arda:How old are you? I am 13 years old.

Umut:Me too

Arda is happy to find a new friend.

But Umut's real name is actually Emir and he is actually older than Arda. Emir will add special money to Arda’s account for a game. Arda believes in his friend and gives details of his account.

Arda gives her account number to him .Unfortunately Umut turns out a bad person who stelas money from different accounts. Arda does not realize what bad things may happen to him. After the week every single coin is transferred to the Umuts account.

Fake news about covid-19

Maria's assignment was about Covit 19. Living on a farm, Maria started her research first with chickens. Scientists say that eating eggs or chicken can get you infected with covid 19. So Maria came up with an idea of making an experiment. She asked her friends to help her out. Maria formed four groups from her friends.The people in the first group ate eggs, the people in the second group ate chicken , third group of people were the ones who didn’t eat eggs and the fourth ones didn’t eat chicken.The first group ate a lot of eggs, the second group ate a lot of chickens.While a few people in the first group got sick from the excess eggs, a few of those in the second group only gained weight. The third group removed the egg and the fourth group removed the chicken from their diet. There was no change in the two groups except for protein deficiency. Maria talked to her friends. Their experiment had not helped them. Thereupon, they decided to prepare news text to correct this misunderstanding. The experiment groups wrote a report on the results and sent the news to the newspaper.

Maria and her friends took a stroll around town to see the impact of their research on people.There was despair and weariness in people's facial expressions.They were sure that the experiment would result in a positive result.They chatted with a few people about the experiment.People said other solutions needed.The majority stated that other drugs should be tried to the group Maria and her friends decided to form an international scientific group .They went to China ,where covit 19 came out,to conduct their research in a healthier way.

Soon Maria noticed that there was a plant that cured people from the virus covid 19. Unfortunately this plant was grown in the mountain Tianshan. They went to find that special plant which had unusual poison that killed the virus. At last they found it and took that plant to the laboratory to make an injection from it. It was great achievement for everyone.

Fake online shops sites

While talking with his friends that day, Yağmur learned that it was possible to shop online. She decided to go home and try immediately. She wrote online shopping on the computer and entered the first site: "We have original brand products." After a little browsing through the shopping site, she remembered that she had no perfume and took a look at the perfumes. She added a few of the original branded perfumes to his basket. She was delighted that the prices were quite cheap. She also needed new jeans, an arm clock and a mug. The jeans looked in good shape and it was cheap. The arm clock also looked nice and modern, as well as the price was believable. The mug was a bit too cheap through but his friend recommended it so She bought it anyway. It said that it would arrive in one week. She was so excited to see her products and she checked the arrival of her packages constantly. At first, she noticed they didn’t post them in one week. She thought it was because of the pandemic period. Then weeks passed but there was not any post. She started to feel anxious and called her friend who advised her to shopping site. However, her friend told her there was never a problem about her shopping. One night, she was about to fall asleep, she remembered the news she had watched. There was a woman in the news,she was so sorry and she warned people to be careful about the names of the online shopping sites. There was sites using the same names with small differences,she was deceived so… Suddenly, she ran to the living room. She entered the sites. Unfourtanely, she realized that she was face to face with same problem. Soon she realized it was necessary to call the police , the police blocked her card incase to stop unfair transactions from her ID card. Finally she returned her money back.

Fake news about famous people

Serap turned on the TV with boredom. The writing she saw on the screen caught her attention. He wrote: "Love ended when the famous model rented a bus as a birthday present for his lover. She said," How can you rent a bus instead of a jet, and burned the bus. "

At that moment her eyes shone because her birthday was approaching. Serap wanted a big mountain bike from her friends. To tell her friends that she wanted a great gift indirectly,she found this news on the internet and sent it to the messaging group she and her friends had set up.Of course, Mehmet was in that group, and Mehmet would see the message, so if her friends did not receive it, her boyfriend Mehmet would definitely receive that gift. When Mehmet saw the message on his phone, he found the gift he could not find for a long time.Of course ,when Mehmet read the message he went to the shop where bicycles were sold. He liked a very nice bike.But when he found out about the price,he was shocked. Mehmet,who was a student, could not give this much money.Left sadly he started looking for a gift he could afford.While wandering around the street he suddenly came up the idea how to collect money for the bike. He decided to find a job but it was not easy. He didn't give up and continued looking for it. While he was walking through the park he saw an advertisement about jobs, so he decided to go and find it. Soon he had an interview and he was chosen. Surprisingly his working place was the shop where he found out the mountain bike.

He was astonished , he worked hard to collect money for the bike soon the owner noticed about his hard work and Mehmet was awarded. The show owner gave him the bike as a present.

Fake news travel agencies

As Eliot walked down the road, the wind suddenly blew a leaflet in front of him. The article in the brochure caught his atttention: "Travel agency" Crasy "is organizing a 7-day trip to New York for 5 people. There is a 75% discount. Who Can Apply: Those born on February 2, 2002 at 22:22 can apply to earn travel. "Only 2 days left." Eliot immediately called her best friend. They were born on the same day with his best friend Sam. A possibility of travelling to New York was an incredible experience for both of them. After a short chat, they decided to meet at a cafe to talk about details. At a cafe, Sam said it is a great offer if they earn this travel’ but I don't have any money.’ He still paid taxes for his building. Despite the discount, he couldn’t afford it. Eliot said ‘ this is not an obstacle for them.’ He could lend some money for him. This made both of them happy. They were on the way to the travel agency immediately… Looking for a travel agency, the guys wandered half a day around the town. Finally, they found a house in the yard between the skyscrapers. It was a small cottage whose in the window they saw the same advertisement to win the trip. Inside, they were greeted by a young girl who introduced herself as a tour manager. Hearing that the guys want to take part in the competition for the trip, she was rejoiced. The manager reminded them today was the last day and encouraged them to fill out the application today. She also reminded them of the need to pay 100 euros. The manager briefly described what they would be able to see on the trip and what tourist attractions they would visit.....What the manager said made both of them very excited.The manager told them to give some money to register.They also gave all the ticket money for the trip.The two friends immediately started preparations for the trip.when the day of the trip came and came,they went to the address stated by the agency at the specified time.But there was no official in their place.They immediately called the agency.But no one answered the phone .They stood there without knowing what to do. They felt something was wrong but they didn’t want to accept this. They were hopeless and couldn’t know what to do. Then,Eliot thought “ ıt is time to call police officers”. When he told this to Sam , it was obvious that Sam also thought this as only choice. They called police and police officers told them they should wait at least 48 hours. Before this period, they couldn't do anything. Eliot gave all the money he had in cash, Sam was sadder because he had also debt. Besides, they were deceived. Unfortunately they had gone home and could do nothing but wait two days. When Eliot realized that the 48 hours were up, she immediately called Sam. They later met at a cafe and called the police again. The police caught them to the police station to inquire about the scammers. Sam and Eliot said everything they knew.Police officers realized that he was fraudulent with same methods. They were crime machines! There were many victims like Sam and Eliot. When the cops said these clues were not enough, Sam and Eliot they were sad but had learned a great lesson; they would no longer be fooled by cheapness.

Fake news about science

Merve was a sick girl. She could not get better no matter what doctor she went to. She was constantly hurting somewhere. That would change the life of her friend Ersin Merve, who came to visit that day.

Ersin:

"Merve I found a miraculous medicine."

Merve was surprised when she heard what Ersin had said. Then she continued so:

-What! What kind of medicine is this? How can it be useful for me?

Ersin:

-This will prevent your aches and heal your ilness, Merve.

Ersin ‘s voice was so excited happy and be confident of himself, but Merve didn’t feel like this. She didn’t want to upset her friend and smiled as she was happy.

-So let's take a look, if you want from the internet, okay? Ersin excitedly opened the website of the drug and handed Merve the phone. The web page had very interesting narration, user comments and videos. The product also affected Merve. But she still decided to leave the page and search the search engine. After browsing a few pages, the comments she saw really shocked him.

In the comments: He said: Your so-called miracle drug killed my aunt. What a miracle, we are in intensive care.

-Oh my God, she turned to Ersin and said

When he saw Merve's face, he did not know what to say.

-What is it writing?

- What more ... said Merve. It was obvious that she was very afraid.

Ersin tried to calm Merve down and decided to contact the company which was producing that miraculous medicine and do more research,get to know why it killed the aunt of that person. Which went well, surprisingly death of aunt was caused by allergic reaction to one of the 124 ingredients, Fortunately company of the miraculous medicine later tested Merve and found out she didn't have allergic reaction to any of those ingredients. Everything went well Merve took the medicine and got better.

Fake news about space

"The world is too toxic to live anymore. According to NASA's statement, people who want to live on other planets are needed." Hearing this news, David rushed to his mother. David was very worried solutions should be produced for the world in order to become habitable He did some research for it and joined a charity group created to save the world. This group first did the activity of finding places that were less toxic. Everyone went out with gas masks to find a less toxic place with their tools and gas masks and walked until midnight, perhaps hoping to find a venomous place. David was one of the first to find the less toxic place, looking at the coordinates of his location on the GPS device and immediately shared the coordinates of his location on the group's page. Authorities took action and searched that place for a while. Meanwhile, David did not stop, he had discovered a new place. At the time of reporting this to the authorities, the researchers had a clue to stopping this poison. David was delighted because they would no longer be drowned in poison. After that he saved the world,people recognized him as a hero,everyone was happy about what David explored. David and the others built cities and did all the stuff that was needed for living. Some people wanted to live on the other planet,so they sent them there.The people who were sent there was very happy about it,they were thankful to David and the others.
