About NVS

New Vintage Strings is a contemporary string quartet known for its distinctive blend of jazz, classic rock, pop & alternative instrumental covers with a Classical touch. NVS presents the songs you love like you’ve never heard them before - modern takes on timeless classics. Their unique instrumentation (two violins, viola, double bass), blend of diverse genres and rotation of outstanding musicians sets NVS apart from the traditional string quartet. Classically-trained, experienced orchestral players and music educators, the members of NVS strive to share their passion for music with their community and bring the perfect balance of energy and elegance to any setting.

Services Offered

The members of New Vintage Strings have been playing together since 2010 and can perform as a duet or quartet for your wedding or event. Their extensive repertoire list suits all tastes and styles, and they can write custom arrangements upon request. They can also guide you through the music selection process for everything from prelude, processional, recessional & postlude to cocktail hour and dinner music.

About the Group

Officially formed in 2018 by husband & wife team Jeremy & Emily Beyer, together with friends & fellow members of the Fox Valley Orchestra, Maura Brown & Allison Zabelin, NVS has quickly become an ensemble in high demand for weddings, events and restaurant & bar entertainment throughout the northwest suburbs of Chicago. NVS can be seen giving frequent public performances at many establishments and parks throughout the northwest suburbs of Chicago, including Plank Road Tap Room, Riverlands Brewing Co., Art History Brewing, La Zingara Trattoria, Eden Restaurant & Events, The Anvil Club, Sew Hop'd, Cafe & Barr, Downtown Elgin Harvest Market and North Aurora Riverfront Park. All NVS members hold degrees in music, work full-time as public school orchestra directors, and have been playing together for many years in local orchestras.

Elgin native, Emily Beyer, 1st violin, studied music education (BME, 2007) at Northern Illinois University. She serves as assistant concertmaster of the Fox Valley Orchestra and frequently performs with the Kishwaukee Symphony in DeKalb. She directs middle and high school orchestras as well as an alternative styles string ensemble for Yorkville Schools, District 115.

Maura Brown, 2nd violin, grew up in the St. Louis area and earned undergraduate degrees BM (performance), and BME (music education), from Ohio State University in 2007. She went on to earn master's degrees, MM (performance), and MME (music education) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2009. She serves as concertmaster of the Fox Valley Orchestra and directs the orchestras at Elk Grove High School, District 214.

Allison Zabelin, viola, grew up in Aurora and studied music education (BME, 2011) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She earned her master's of music education degree (MME, 2015) from Vandercook School of Music, Chicago. She serves as principal violist of the Fox Valley Orchestra and teaches orchestra in Libertyville, District 70.

Originally from Algonquin, Jeremy Beyer, double bass, has extensive performance experience in a multitude of musical genres. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Northern Illinois University, BME (music education) 2006 & MM (music history) 2014. He serves as principal bass of the Kishwaukee Symphony and assistant principal bass of the Fox Valley Orchestra. As a jazz bassist, he performs regularly with the Matt Loeb Trio, Chicago Hot Five and Barb City Stompers. He can also be seen playing electric bass with the classic rock cover band, After School Special, in the Libertyville area. Presently, he teaches guitar, music theory and orchestra at Dundee-Crown High School, District 300.
