The Office of Residence Life & Housing is thrilled to welcome you home to Queens. We hope that as a member of the "Royals Family," your residence hall becomes a home away from home, where you will make memories, cultivate close friendships, and mature into the best version of yourself.
New student room selection is the online process where newly enrolled students choose their housing for the upcoming academic year. Please pay special attention to the timeline of this process and the information located on this site to begin your residential collegiate journey successfully
Prior to participating in new student room selection, you must complete the following:
Complete your new student room application and sign your housing contract online via the Self-Service website beginning April 1, 2021.
Students who complete their application by May 31, 2021, will have priority access to begin selecting their residence hall room as early as June 2.
Students who complete their housing application after May 31, 2021, will be eligible to begin selecting their residence hall room as early as June 7, 2021.
Match with your roommate(s) on the Self-Service website. Please make sure you and your potential roommate(s) have completed the new student room application and contract in step #1 before trying to match in Self-Service. You are not required to create a roommate group.
If you complete your new student room application and contract by May 31, 2021, you will be eligible to log into the Self-Service website on June 1, 2021, to locate your assigned randomized sign-up time to select your residence hall room. If you created a roommate group, the person in your group with the earliest sign-up time will be the first to be able to log in and select housing on behalf of the group from the available options. Housing selection is a live process, so you need to have alternate plans if your group’s first choice is not available.
Sign-up times are assigned randomly and are not based on the order of completed applications.
If you complete your new student room application and contract after May 31, 2021, you will automatically receive a randomized sign-up time to select your residence hall room beginning June 7, 2021. If you create a roommate group, the person in your group with the earliest sign-up time will be the first to be able to log in and select housing on behalf of the group from the available options. Housing selection is a live process, so you need to have alternate plans if your group’s first choice is not available.
Beginning June 15, 2021, students who have completed new student room selection will receive instructions on how to log into the Self-Service website and select their meal plan for the upcoming academic year. Students who do not select a meal plan by August 15, 2021, will automatically be enrolled for the 17 meal per week plan.
Queens University has a strict 90 credit housing requirement. Incoming new students, rising sophomores, and juniors (current first-year and second-year students) are required to reside on campus unless exempted by Residence Life & Housing. Students should not sign a lease elsewhere or plan to live off-campus before receiving an official release from Residence Life & Housing.
This year, due to concerns over COVID-19, many students were released from living on-campus. If you fall into this category and have less than 90 cumulative credit hours by the end of the spring 2021 semester, you need to participate in returning student room selection in the spring of 2021 to solidify an assignment for the fall of 2021.
When you sign your contract with us, you are agreeing to the residential expectations in the Queens Honor Code. Because these standards provide the backbone of our community philosophies, and because you will be held accountable to them, we encourage you to thoughtfully and thoroughly review them.
You should familiarize yourself with the odds of selecting your preferred housing option and have alternate plans if your group’s first choice is not available.
Beginning June 15, 2021, students who have completed new student room selection will receive instructions on how to log into the Self-Service website and select their meal plan for the upcoming academic year. Students who do not select a meal plan by August 15, 2021, will automatically be enrolled for the 17 meal per week plan.
