SOGI Representation in Media:

After completing Module 1 and Module 2 students can extend their understanding of Identity and Representation in media by applying their learning in the inquiry project outlined to the right. Below you will find examples of media representation analysis as well as a downloadable Google Doc that outlines the project outcomes, steps, and assessment criteria that you can use with students in your class.

Students can become creative activists by examining gender and/or sexuality representation, intersectionality, stereotypes, and tropes in media and “[turn] culture back upon itself” (Jenkins, 2017) in a form and context of their choosing. Students will share their artifacts and reflect on their choices, process, form, context, purpose, and the impact their artefact will have on their intended audience.
