To Prof. G. Peano in Turin
Esteemed Sir!
Thank you very much for your kind postcard dated December 5. I am very pleased that you are not refusing to accept a potential election as Director of the International Academy of the Universal Language, but that you only say that the qualities of a director are lacking and that you do not have time to complete the dictionary from the circulars.
Regarding the first argument, I find that it is merely a phrase showing your modesty—I also did not think I could be director when I was selected, but I fulfilled my duties; and regarding the second argument, you are mistaken: the largest part of the work on completing the dictionary has already been done, as you can see in the Supplement to the dictionary, which I had the honor of sending you two days ago. The small remainder of words can also be completed, and not necessarily by the director himself: you will have a vice director and two secretaries.
Therefore, I hope that you will accept, which I kindly request you to confirm shortly by letter or postcard.
With respectful greetings, I remain your most devoted servant,
Rosenberger
I am writing to you and not to Prof. M because I personally prefer you.
