I mainly used OpenToonz for animation since I didn't want to pay for Adobe, and I found it a bit difficult to use. Moreover, Opentoonz was super easy to operate since I learned it through a youtube turorial playlist. The only downside would is that the program would shut down or not save your work every once in a while. But it was free and easy to use, so I would recommend to others!
For next year, I am planning to use Blender, a free 3D and 2D animation/graphic design program, in my video. I wanted to use it this year, but the program takes a lots of learning and practising to get used to. Belnder is incredibly powerful at creating vivid animations and I would highly recommened to others who are willing to learn.
I used iMovie for editing since it is super easy and friendly to users. Unfortunalty iMoive is only aviable to Apple users. Some tricks I would recommend are:
To use a green screen, make the background of your picture or animation green using OpenToonz or Powerpoint. Then put it over the video and select greenscreen in iMovie. I found this trick through Deanna's (2016 winner) youtube tips video.
iMoive also allows you to add a filter to your scenes which I used for my neurual tube defects part. This really engaged the audience and can be extermly helpful.
