Manuela G. López

Manuela G. López leads the NeuroProtection Lab. She has more than 25 years of experience in drug R&D. In addition to her extensive research work, she coordinated the Master in Pharmacological Research UAM, was director of the Teófilo Hernando Institute for drug R&D and has directed more than 20 PhD Theses. She is currently the secretary-patron of the Teófilo Hernando Foundation and secretary of the scientific committee of the “Foro de Jóvenes investigadores de la Real Academia Nacional de Medicina”.
Elena Tortosa Binacua
Ph.D. in Molecular Neuropathology (Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, UAM-CSIC - Madrid, Spain)
Elena has more than 10 years of experience developing her work as a neuroscientist in academic and industrial environments. Since 2022 she enjoys a postdoctoral Talent Attraction contract (1) from the Community of Madrid and combines her research work in the laboratory with teaching activities. Currently, she is supervising two PhD Theses in the laboratory.
Silvia Santamaría García-Minguillán
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine (Universidad Complutense de Madrid - Madrid, Spain)
Silvia has more than 15 years of experience in human pathology research with murine models, developing her career in several national research centers. She is currently working on the development of new drugs for the treatment of thaupathies and directs several Master Thesis in the laboratory.
Lucía Viqueira Díaz-Alejo
Graduate in Biotechnology (Universidad Politécnica de Valencia - Valencia, Spain)
With a Master's degree in Pharmacology and Physiology (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), since October 2021 he is developing his PhD Thesis in Pharmacology and Physiology with a FPU contract under the direction of Dr. Manuela García and Dr. Elena Tortosa.
Ángela Gómez Mediavilla
Graduate in Biotechnology (Universidad de Salamanca - Salamanca, Spain)
With a Master's degree in Clinical Neuroscience (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), Ángela enjoys since 2022 a FPU contract to carry out her PhD Thesis in Pharmacology and Physiology, under the supervision of Dr. Manuela García.
Nerea Peña Montero
Graduate in Biology (Universidad Complutense de Madrid - Madrid, Spain)
With a Master in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), she is developing her PhD Thesis in Pharmacology and Physiology since October 2024 with a FPI contract from the Community of Madrid, under the direction of Dr. Manuela García.
Claudia Fernández Cuétara
Graduate in Biology (Universidad de la Habana - La Habana, Cuba)
With a Master's degree in Microbiology (UAM), since October 2024 she is developing her PhD Thesis in Pharmacology and Physiology with an FPI-UAM contract under the supervision of Dr. Elena Tortosa.
Ariadna Pérez Pérez
Graduate in Chemistry and Biochemistry (Universidad Complutense de Madrid - Madrid, Spain)
She is currently studying the Master in Pharmacological Research (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) and is doing her Master's Thesis "Effect of NRF2 induction in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model" under the tutelage of Dr. Manuela García and Dr. Silvia Santamaría.
Laura Poza Viejo
Ph.D. in Biology (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid - Madrid, Spain)
With a previous postdoctoral career in plant genetics research projects, since 2025 she is Research Project Technician of the Tau-Neurodiscovery project funded by the Community of Madrid.
