Enrique Pére Payá Award to Javier García Nafría
The Spanish Biophysics Society (SBE) awards the Enrique Pérez Payá SBE-40 Prize to Javier García Nafría of the University of Zaragoza. This award recognises the career of a Biophysicist with a maximum age of 40 years with a great contribution to the progress of Biophysics in Spain. Dr Javier García Nafría has won this award for his research in structural biology of membrane proteins.
First project awarded to the NEUROMOL group
The Neuromol group has received the first research project as a DGA group!!!!
During the next two years we will collaborate between the different research lines of the NEUROMOL group in the project "Neuronal receptors and protein misfolding in diseases".
FEBRUARY 2021
To celebrate 11F "Day of women and girls in science" Zaragoza shows real and close references of women scientists. Nunilo has been selected for this campaign, congrats!

The article by Beatriz Herguedas Francés (and Javier García Nafría) entitled Architecture of the heteromeric GluA1/2 AMPA receptor in complex with the auxiliary subunit TARP gamma8, published in the journal Science, has been chosen as article of the month in the Biophysics Magazine of the Spanish Biophysics Society. This article describes the mechanisms of function of a heteromeric AMPA receptor complex, responsible for nerve impulse transmission between neurons and highly involved in memory formation. See more information here.
The article by Pedro Latorre Muro (José Alberto Carrodeguas), Dynamic acetylation of cytosolic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase toggles enzyme activity between gluconeogenic and anaplerotic reactions, published in the journal Molecular Cell, was chosen article of the month by the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The article describes how acetylation, phosphorylation and ubiquitination act in a coordinated manner to regulate the activity of the enzyme fofoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, which is involved in glucose synthesis and is related to pathologies such as diabetes and cancer.
