Tuesday Arrivals

If you are arriving on Tuesday into D.C., lodging arrangements have been made for you at:

NOTE: Your hotel room has been prepaid.

Transportation to the Candlewood Suites Herndon: If you are arriving into Dulles, please call the hotel at (703) 793-7100 for a shuttle pick up. If you are arriving into DCA, please get an Uber/Lyft/or Taxi to the hotel. NOTE: Keep your receipt!

Those staying at Candlewood Suites Herndon should be in the hotel lobby and checked out and ready to catch the shuttle by 12:20 PM on Wednesday. Yasmin Catricheo will meet you there.

Wednesday Arrivals

If you are arriving on Wednesday, November 20th, Yasmin will be reaching out to you directly with information about pick up at the airport.

NOTE: PLEASE enter Green Bank Observatory or Arbovale, West Virginia (the location of the Observatory) into your GPS/Cell Phone BEFORE beginning your drive. About 1 hour before reaching the Observatory, you will lose cell phone service. If you plug this into your GPS before losing cell service, GoogleMaps should still direct you to the Observatory.

NOTE: PLEASE print out a hard copy of the directions as well!

What to do when you arrive?

When you arrive, as you pull into the Observatory, park in the first parking lot on your right, and enter the main doors to the first building on your right. This will be the NRAO Dorms. Your keys will be waiting for you in the lobby.

Driving directions:

If you are coming from:

The North, take I-79 S to RT 33 East to RT 92 S

The South, take I-77 N to I-64 E to RT 92 N

The East, take

• I-64 W to RT 92 N – OR
• RT 33 W to RT 28 S/W to RT 92 S

The West, take:

• RT 50 E to I-79 S to RT 33 E to RT 92 S – OR
• I-64 E to I-79 N to RT 33 E to RT 92 S – OR
• I-64/I-77 E to I-64 E to RT 92 N

Local airports

From Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT)

• Take Airport Blvd, then follow directions to I-376 E towards Pittsburgh
• At exit 64A, take I-79 S toward Washington
• Take left ramp for I-79 S / I-70 E toward Morgantown / New Stanton
• At exit 21, take right ramp for I-79 S toward Morgantown
• Follow directions above for travel from the North

From Charlottesville/Albemarle Airport (CHO)

• Depart Airport via Airport Road
• Turn right to take VA-29 S / Seminole Trail
• Follow signs for 29 or 29 Bypass towards I-64
• Take I-64 W toward Staunton
• Follow directions above for travel from the East

From Washington Dulles (IAD)

• Take Dulles Airport Access Rd to exit airport
• Take ramp right for VA-28 S toward Centreville/Manassas
• Take ramp right for I-66 W toward Front Royal
• Take I-66 W, and at exit 1A, take ramp left for I-81 S toward Roanoke
• Take Exit 296 for US-48 W to Patterson Creek Rd and exit from US-48 onto WV-28 S
• Take slight left onto WV-42 South (Lunce Creek Highway)
• Turn right toward WV-28 S/WV-55 W
• Stay on WV-28 S to Green Bank Observatory

Expense reimbursement

As a participant, you will be reimbursed once you submit receipts. In addition, you will receive per diem for travel days. You will be asked to complete an AUI Travel Authorization form before the meeting and will also receive an expense form to complete at GBO.

Please complete the form. Provide:

• Date Prepared
• Traveler Name and address
• Phone number
• Sign the document and return it to Yasmin at ycatricheo@aui.edu .
• PLEASE keep copies of your receipts. You will need to submit them for reimbursement. Receipts are not needed for meals. You will receive the government per diem rate.
