When Elite Driving School of Long Island reached out to me for a logo, they had some other challenges as well. They needed a logo and a website. After a short conversation over what they wanted, they gave me full creative control over their brand.
Because of the name of the business, I wanted to create something powerful with a touch of elegance and class. I used a shield as a symbol of strength and added a script font for elegance. When choosing colors, I decided on gold and black for luxury and class. I used these elements in the design of their website for consistency.
Ching Juhl is a Chinese American filmmaker, video journalist, musician and YouTube content creator based in New York City.
Ching Juhl reached out to me to design the poster to her documentary, My Yang Gang Diary, which tells stories of Andrew Yang’s presidential campaign and the grassroots movement from the Yang Gang supporters. Ching did not have any requirements for the poster and allowed me to come up with the full concept. When thinking of the idea for the poster, I thought about the name of the documentary and what it was about. Because I knew the documentary was shot on an iPhone 11, I felt it would be cool to represent that on the cover. I asked Ching to please take a photo with her facing front towards the camera and wearing her iconic MATH (Make America Think Harder) hat from the Yang 2020 presidential campaign. I added an image [shot by Ching Juhl] of Andrew Yang behind her so that it's apparent what this documentary is about. The image was perfect, as it has an American flag. In projects like these, where I'm given freedom to come up with the concept, in speaking with the client or team, images just appear in my head of how I want the end result of the project to be, then it's all about creating it.
After designing the poster, I suggested that a website be made for the documentary so that it's easier for people to share the product with their friends. Ching allowed me to design a website for this documentary. Since then, the documentary has won many awards.
I was hired by Kaelyn's mom to shoot photos in preparation for her Sweet Sixteen. In this project she asked for me to design the invitation as well and she had a unique idea for the invitation.
THE IDEA: Let's use a picture of Kaelyn as a toddler and a picture from the photo session to show how she's grown over the years.
THE PROBLEM: Kaelyn only had a red coat but in her toddler photo, she wore a pink coat but the colors for the theme of the party (Paris in Winter) were blue and silver.
MY SOLUTION: First, I made sure to shoot the photo in a similar pose. Then I edited the colors of the coat so they matched in red and gold. My thoughts in the process was that having the colors match at this stage would make it easier to match them to blue afterwards. Once the coat colors matched in red, I then proceeded to change the colors of the coat to blue and silver buttons.
Finally, I design the invitation with the theme in mind; Paris in Winter.
Dr. Devi Nampiamparampil is an American physician and researcher who specializes in preventing and treating chronic pain. She comments on medical issues for various platforms, and appears on news and talk shows.
I was hired by Dr. Devi to design her website for her race as a candidate for New York City Public Advocate in 2021. With that contract, I included photography and logo design as well. We set up a photo studio at her office and I shot pictures of her specifically for use on her website and for social media. I was looking to shoot pictures that shows her brilliant smile and also wanted to make sure she looked professional and ready to take on the role as Public Advocate. she chose a red blouse under her suit jacket but there is one blouse that she wore that was actually orange. I used my skills with photoshop to change the color from orange and matched it to red. She chose the color red to represent her political party.
Curtis Sliwa is an American activist, radio talk show host and founder and chief executive officer of the Guardian Angels, a nonprofit organization for unarmed crime prevention. Sliwa was the Republican nominee for the 2021 New York City mayoral election.
I was hired by Curtis Sliwa as an independent contractor to design graphics for use in traditional print and digital media. In my time with the campaign, I designed flyers, palm cards, door hangers, posters, social media graphics and edited videos to help promote Mr. Sliwa for Mayor of New York City. Sometimes I was given a task to do with specific instructions on what was needed but I was always given the creative freedom to put everything together at my own professional discretion. For example. The campaign needed a poster and I used the logo from the campaign and obtained the license for the stock image of his headshot because I did not have any headshot images at the time that depicted Mr. Sliwa with a smile as I was envisioning in my head. Then, I searched for a free stock image of New York City. I used Photoshop to retouch Mr. Sliwa's picture and used Adobe InDesign to put everything together. I was given full creative freedom to place the words as I wanted and for this project was not given any direct instructions, other than "we need a poster".
