Palm❘ نخل

Here in Jaarian, a Nakhl, is a wooden structure that several men carry on Ashura day, represents death and coffin. They start from a point in the middle of the village and go all the way to a mosque, where their dead ones are buried. In front of every house, they stop and say all the names of the dead ones from that house.

No matter how long ago they died, their name are always called.

My great grandmother always checked our family's name, to see.

if anyone's missed from the list. The year she died herself, the ritual got canceled. I always wondered how it feels, number of the names you know grow each year.

The word Nakhl also literally means palm tree in persian.
