For this project I had to find two different, recent news articles about Cybersecurity. I had to provide a brief description of the article and then evaluate the source. I also took a cyberscurity course and earned a completion certificate.
I learned that there are way more cybersecurity attacks and issues every day than I previously thought. I also learned that there are many different types of cybersecurity attacks that I didn't know about such as spoofing and pharming. I also improved my ability to evaluate sources.
This article shares information on a phishing scam that takes the form of a Netflix email. You receive a legitimate looking email that says your Netflix account has expired, but don't worry, you can get a free 3-month extension if you click this link below. The only issue is, the email is not actually from Netflix and to get the "free extension" you have to enter your credit card information. The entire thing is just a scam to gain access to your credit card and steal it.

This article shows how ransomware attacks have evolved recently, specifically against executives. Ransomware criminals are now SIM swapping with the children of executives and then calling the executive. This means that the person is getting a call that says it's from their child, and then they hear a different voice, the voice of the criminal that SIM swapped. This changes how people need to think about these scams and whether to pay the demand because it's less about protecting customers and more about protecting employees and their families.
