The client is Dustin Canter, Chief Executive Officer of PodTechs. We chose this client because PodTechs has a training program that teaches nascent producers to produce podcasts. The program is delivered through instructor-led, in-person training; a PodTechs employee works face-to-face with new producers. On average, new producers complete the program within 35 hours over several weeks and multiple synchronous sessions with a PodTechs employee. The client is interested in developing an eLearning module that producers could complete independently prior to their first synchronous instruction with a PodTechs employee.
At the beginning of the training program, new producers author a mission, value, and purpose statement for starting a podcast. The statement serves the producers at a strategic level. To operationalize the strategy, the producers need a detailed, schematic-level guide. Show notes serve the producers at the operational level in that they are a detailed plan that producers can later follow to produce high-quality audio content.
Currently producers develop a first draft of show notes in real time with a PodTechs employee; the process takes two or three hours. The desired end state is producers completing a first draft of show notes without a PodTechs employee in one hour. The goals of the IMU will be to improve the efficiency with which producers draft show notes and increase the producers’ confidence in their ability to produce a podcast.
