Nebraska Thespians Scholarship Application (Updated September 2024)
A. SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION:
At least two non-renewable scholarships will be awarded to inducted Nebraska Thespians as directed by the State Board of Directors’ scholarship panel.
One scholarship will be the Carol Scott Scholarship for a Thespian majoring in theatre education. This scholarship will be at least $300 more than any other Nebraska Thespian Scholarship.
One scholarship will be the Scott Engel Scholarship for a Thespian pursuing technical theatre..
One or more scholarships will be awarded to a student furthering their education with a major or minor in the performing or communicative arts (theatre, speech, film, radio or television broadcasting, vocal or instrumental music or dance) while studying at a recognized school of their choice.
The Scholarship amount is contingent upon the amount raised at the Festival through student service project(s).
Failure to complete enrollment or withdrawal from school negates this scholarship will not be awarded.
B. ELIGIBILITY:
All applicants must be Thespians.
All applicants must have been students of a Nebraska High School for a least one academic year prior to applying.
All award recipients must use the grant for furthering their education with a major or minor in the performing or communicative arts (Theatre, speech, film, radio or television broadcasting, vocal or instrumental music or dance) while studying at a recognized school of their choice.

PERFORMANCE: Your video for performance should be no more than 2 minutes including slate and transition between pieces. Video should include two contrasting pieces (one song and one monologue OR two monologues) If singing, you must use a track. NO a capella submissions are permitted.
MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE: Dance selection must be from a score written for a musical theatre scene with a focus on dance performance that does not exceed five (5) minutes in length.
LEADERSHIP or THEATRE EDUCATION: Upload a written essay.
LEADERSHIP: Focus on how your involvement with theatre has helped you grow your leadership abilities and how this will be incorporated as you move into your college education.
THEATRE EDUCATION: Please describe why you want to go into the field of theatre education and what or who has inspired you to go into this career.
PLAYWRITING: Upload a copy of your script
FILM: Films should be no more than five (5) minutes long, plus one (1) additional minute for credits.
DESIGN, STAGE MANAGEMENT, and THEATRE MARKETING PORTFOLIO: You can upload up to five documents from your Design, Stage Management, and Theatre Marketing portfolio OR present via video that is no more than five (5) minutes long
