WORST EVER 1965 SET
After completing and upgrading (mostly) my 1965 set, I noticed I had a few real beaters in my dupes box. I love this set, and love the beaters as much as the nicer cards. So I am going to try and put together the worst set ever for 1965 Topps baseball. Even though I have a list below of the cards I have, I will take any downgrade that might be a downgrade. So if you have a real classic beater in your dupes box, it will find a home here.
Writing? Tears? Stains? Creases so deep you can't read the name? Mustaches and glasses? Love them all. The worse they are, the better they will fit into this set. Hoping to make this a true OBC set, even though I did grab an ebay lot of "fair to poor" 65s to get started.
Some examples of my "best" cards:
From an OBC collection bought by Steve Archibald and Bob Bannon years ago
From OBC's James Moleta. Not sure exactly is stuck to this card, but it is still sticky after all these years
From the 2022 National, from OBC friendly dealer Jerry Nelson
Warren looks good with a little pen-style plastic surgery. Another 2022 National find.
From OBC's Steve Archibald. This mustache is so expertly drawn that I had to look closely to make sure it wasn't real
From OBC's Will Steffe. Bike spoke card in the summer of '65 for sure
From the 2021 OBC traveling Dupes Box. For some reason, this card is completely laminated. Not sure exactly how or why.
From OBC's Will Steffe. I guess someone didn't listen to the owner of this card and actually throw it away
From OBC's James Moleta. I wish I knew what game was being played with the writing on this card
From the 2021 OBC traveling Dupes Box. Had a hard time getting Juan into the binder, as the lower right of this card is see-through
From my own dupes box. Somehow I must have found part of a collection where the kid kept players with their new teams. This is one of many!
From OBCer Peter Mead's private collection. Peter and his brother used to cut players to field more teams!
Figured Mickey should be the best of my worst, so this is an example of what I am hoping this set will be worse than.
A true classic from OBC's Randy Griffin. Not sure what Deron did to this kid, but he sure did not like him.
My first slabbed card for this set, directly graded from Wenatchee by OBCs Mike Rumley-Wells. Tony Kubek, Duck Dynasty version!!
