cards were found with either red panels below the image (48R) or blue panels (48B),
the set-of-312 cards were found with scenic (312) or white backgrounds (312W), and
some of the set-of-192 were printed with "More cards" at the end of the line describing
the set size (192M) or with the two words split across two lines (192). With these
variants, many collectors treat the series as a 432-card collection. In each wave, cards were skip-numbered.

1936 G-Men & Heroes of the Law HAVE list
The 1936 G-Men & Heroes of the Law set contains 168 numbered cards, measuring 3 1/8" by 2 1/2", and was produced by Gum, Inc. These 1936 G-Men & Heroes of the Law cards depict a full color action picture on the front, and a brief "official" story from the records of G-Men, Famous Police organizations, and Heroes of the Law.
There are various inconsistencies in the 1936 G-Men & Heroes card set On the back of the cards, there is a statement claiming that there are 240 cards total to collect, but the card numbers skip ranging from card #25-451. Cards #200 and higher are much more scarce than the lower numbered cards in the set. There are known variances of the coloring of the ampersand sign on the front of the cards #25-166. Other variations include the presence or absence of the sentence "...your collection of 240 thrilling action pictures...".

1936 Player's National Flags and Arms
One of the earliest examples of flags being used as a promotional cigarette or trade card was the 1936 set produced and published by John Player & Son – a tobacco company. These cards are fascinating as they were published prior to World War II and reflect the political situation that was developing in Europe. It is also interesting to note the countries they have selected as being “important” enough to be included. With only 50 cards in the series the number of countries is obviously limited but there are some very strange choices even for that period.

1937 Der Weltkrieg Want list
Cigarette card collectors book titled Der Weltkrieg (The World War) compiled in Germany 1937 as a commemoration of World War I. It features 270 full-colour cigarette cards illustrating significant German battles and events. The scrapbook was issued by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Dresden.
This scrapbook captures the German perspective of World War I in pictures and writing. Themes such as nationalism, armed forces, everyday life during the war and stereotypical images of the enemy forces are referenced by the visual iconography. Through the chapters the progression of the war is illustrated. The individual sections are organised around each year of the war, 1914-18. The introduction to each chapter lists the different theatres and progression of the war. This summary is followed by sections, which under individual headings like 'Reason and Start of War', display cigarette cards and a short description of the image on that card. The first chapter also features a map of Belgium, France, Germany and parts of Switzerland in 1914 with the German armies and their campaigns. The appendix features cards depicting life behind the front line, the war in the colonies, and Germany's enemies. While the cigarette cards are in colour, the chapters are predominantly printed in sepia. The exception are maps of the East and West front, and the battles in Italy, Serbia and the Orient, which took place in 1915.

1938 Gum Inc. Horrors of War (R69) WANT list
1938 Gum Inc. Horrors of War is one of the most famous trading card sets of all-time. Equal parts gruesome and gorgeous, the historically based set remains widely sought after decades later. 1938 Gum Inc. Horrors of War is a large set -- 288 cards divided into two series. The original set has 240 cards that focus on the Spanish Civil War, Ethiopian War and the Chinese-Japanese War. The final 48 cards came later as a supplemental release. Among these cards are three that show Adolf Hitler, who was now a threat to the world. The images on the front are full of color and detail. Many of the images are shocking, even today. Nothing is held back. Scenes of torture, bloody battlefields and children under attack are all shown in the set. The colors are vibrant, further adding to the set's distinct visuals. Backs offer detailed descriptions of what's happening on the card. The writing is equally lively and colorful.

1938 Goudey Action Gum (R1)Want List
The 96-card “Action Gum” trading card set was most likely issued during the 1938-1939 time-frame prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States formally entering World War II. Subsequently, none of the 96 cards in the set refer to a specific wartime event. The cards all feature “action” scenes showing the United States Armed Services in wartime scenarios. It is interesting to note that there were numerous other “Wartime” card sets issued before this series. However, according to Goudey, Action Gum was “The Greatest Card Series Ever Produced,” as they claimed on the back of every card. The color artwork and text of the series is rather simplistic when compared to other similar series, such as “War Gum” or “Horrors of War.” The American Card Catalog reference number for Action Gum is R1.

1939-40 Gum Inc. War News Pictures (R165) Want List
The War New Pictures set of cards was issued in winter of 1939 and into 1940 by Gum, Inc. The first series of 48 cards is in black & white. Various color versions were added. Cards #109 to #120 are extremely rare. The 1939 War News Picture Set, produced by Gum Inc., contains 144 cards that measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/8". The War News set was produced on the eve of World War II, by J. Warren Bowman, as an effort to emulate the success of the 1936 Horrors of War Set. The War News set provides a unique insight into how the public thought the next world war would be fought.

1939 GUM INC WORLD IN ARMS (R173) Want List
1939 Gum Inc World in Arms trading cards are divided into six different categories: Airplanes, Ships, Iron Cavalry, Field Artillery, Fortifications, and Miscellaneous. With each division, the numbering sequence starts from “1” but the final checklist weighs in at 48 cards. Each card front features an original art piece of a famous war machine from the various armies of the world with the reverse of the cards explaining the depiction on the front. Several images from this set were recycled for other sets that followed including 10 which appeared in a Rand McNally book about the American military. According to sample cards distributed in other Gum Inc products, the intention was for this set to be 120 cards but as often happened (as it did the following year with 1940 Lone Ranger), the set size was reduced before production. Unlike Lone Ranger, though, it does not appear that Charles Steinbacher completed artwork for the original checklist and these 48 images are all that are known from this series. Promo cards are available with a red stamp over the back card text.

1941 Uncle Sam's (R157) and Home Defense (R158) Want LIST
The “UNCLE SAM” & “Uncle Sam’s HOME DEFENSE” series is made up of two separate subsets. Both sets were issued by Gum, Inc. in 1941 prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the entrance of the United States into World War II. The first subset titled “Uncle Sam”, consists of 96 cards, sequentially numbered from 1 to 96. The 48 card “Uncle Sam’s HOME DEFENSE” subset, followed the “Uncle Sam” set in 1941. The set was sequentially numbered from 97 to 144. This particular subset is devoted to the civilian activities in preparation for warfare. The series is also very pleasing to the eye, and is interesting from the historical perspective of what United States citizens were doing in preparation for hostilities in 1941. The Uncle Sam’s HOME DEFENSE subset has an American Card Catalog number of R158. This subset is more difficult to obtain since the production of the cards came under the jurisdiction of wartime restrictions on resources.

1944 Card-O: Aeroplanes “Mixed” Series (R112-12) WANT List
The Card-O: Aeroplanes “Mixed” Series of 45 cards may actually be parts from several different sets. What the sets were, appears to be lost in history. However, the common denominator throughout the “Mixed” series is the absence of any series identification or set total. Furthermore, the “Mixed” series is actually divided into four very distinct subsets. Each subset has its own characteristic look and basic theme.

1949 Bowman Wild West (R701-19) HAVE List
The 1949 Bowman Wild West Set (R701-19) contains 180 cards divided into 8 subsets. The cards measure 2 1/16" x 2 1/2" and depict people and scenes from the Wild West. The back of the cards list subset name, title of the card, and a description of the person or scene being depicted on the front. The set was wildly popular upon release and Bowman adjusted supply for each print run to match the projected demand for the cards. This resulted in cards from later issues (the higher #'s of each subset) to have significantly more value than the previous cards.

1956 Topps Davy Crockett Orange Back (R712-1)Want List
The 1956 Topps Davy Crockett cards were based on the very popular Walt Disney movie Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier! These cards were issued in two different series. Both sets have 80 cards. Series 1 cards have the orange backs and the series 2 cards have green backs. The series 2 green back cards were issued later and in much lesser quantities. The green back cards have "A" after the card number. The fronts have color photos and the backs have descriptive text. The cards measure 2-1/2" by 3-5/8". There are three different types of the orange back series 1 cards. The most common orange backs have gray stock borders. There are also orange back cards that have white or tan stock borders. Finally there are bright fluorescent orange backs printed in a bright white background which are the most difficult to find.

1965 AB&C Civil War News Want List
When the Civil War News set was released by Topps in 1962, the immense detail, eye-popping color and graphic nature of the images caused a tremendous fervor amongst non-sport enthusiasts. The cards were absolutely awash with bold, bright colors, projecting as miniature works of art. Starting in 1959, Topps forged an allegiance with A&BC Chewing Gum, LTD. of North London, who had been printing their own cards for several years, and the British company began issuing Topps products all across Great Britain. Among the first Topps products issued by A&BC were Elvis Presley and Flags of the World, followed soon after, in 1965, with Civil War News. A complete set numbers 88 in all.
