Looking forward to 2014-2015!

Last year we made alot of progress on entering township data across Indiana (see map here)! We expect lots of progress for the 2014-2015 academic year as well. We currently have 9 undergraduates helping us enter PLS data (student profiles to be updated soon). We have two undergraduates who are helping us continue our collaboration with Tammy Patterson, Jessica Hellman and the rest of the Kankakee group to provide data that will be used for PalEON and Jessica's grant from the Upper Midwest Great Lakes Landscape Conservation Cooperative (UMGL LCC) to assess waterfowl habitat restoration as an adaptive mechanism for water sustainability in the Grand Kankakee River Watershed. Currently we have entered 89 Kankakee townships and have 10 more in Indiana to finish before moving on to the Kankakee watershed in Illinois.

The other seven undergraduates working on this project will be shifting their focus from entering townships in Indiana to expanding our data for townships in Illinois.

As of today, our students have entered tree data for 50,368 corners over the past 3 years! We have a great team that has put in a lot of effort and who are fun to have in the lab.

For one example of how data students have entered are used, look at this PalEON blog entry about the forest composition from pre-Euro-American settlement (1700-1850).
