Current Department Chair
1 Courses
Introduction to Space Science and Engineering(Engineering), Basics of the Satellite Communications Industry, Satellite System Engineering
2 Expertise
Atmospheric Tides, Planetary Waves, Mesosphere, Lower Thermosphere, Atmosphere-Ionosphere Coupling, Satellite Data Analysis, Satellite Remote Sensing
Space science: I have experience in fields of both science and engineering. Initially my fields of research were upper atmospheric dynamics and its effects on the space weather of the mesosphere and the thermosphere. Later extended to include the atmosphere-ionosphere coupling behaviors and their influences.
Small satellites and payload development, raising domestic industries: Roughly a decade ago we started to develop in the design, construction and maneuver of small satellites as a platform for scientific explorations. Now we also expanded to cooperate with domestic industries and even assist to construct their capabilities to execute their own satellite missions. Meanwhile aiming to design our own satellite subsystems to further facilitate domestic satellite production.

INSPIRE (International Satellite Project in Research and Education, https://lasp.colorado.edu/missions/inspire-sat/)
University of Colorado at Boulder擁有非常豐富的太空任務經驗的 Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP, https://lasp.colorado.edu/ )
3 Words From the Professor
In 2015, we had collaborated with various international partners to establish an academic alliance named INSPIRE (International Satellite Project in Research and Education, https://lasp.colorado.edu/missions/inspire-sat/). Cooperatively executed the satellite missions everyone managed to launch and the hands-on training of satellite systems for our students.
Every summer we would send 3-4 students to the University of Colorado at Boulder in America for internship at Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP, https://lasp.colorado.edu/), where highly experienced scientists and engineers instruct everyone on their collaborated satellite missions.
Besides, as humanity began to return to the moon, we have also been on the development of Deep Space Radiation Probe payloads for the past three years. We expect it to be loaded on the Japanese lunar module ispace Hakuto-R Mission 2 launching in Q4 2024, which will be Taiwan’s first lunar mission!
We also expect to integrate our light payload Compact Radiation Probe into CubeSat COSPAR-1 3U launched under the collaboration of fellow INSPIRE members in America, France and Australia at the end of this year(2024). Therefore we are constructing the capabilities on space radiation testing and environment monitoring. We are also initiating research and analyses regarding the mission objectives and concepts of the potentially lunar-orbiting project COSPAR-2.
4 Words From Senior Students
Loren is a man passionate in space exploration and actively promotes various projects. He’s also a busy man often traveling all over the world for his work.
He has the impression of a lively person as he shares his life on Instagram with contents ranging from his works to sports experiences.
During the freshman year, you will have to take the course Introduction to Space Science and Engineering partly hosted by him. With his sections including introductions to spacecraft subsystems and ionospheric physics to provide basic insights regarding the fields of research in our department. In the course he speaks in mostly Chinese but the slideshows, assignments and exam questions will be written in English, shouldn’t be a problem if you are reading this part of the webpage.
⭐Suggestions: Take notes during class and prepare a scientific calculator for the exam.( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
